The City of Bristol has adopted a tobacco-free and smoke-free campus policy at the Police/Court Comp

The City of Bristol has adopted a tobacco-free and smoke-free campus policy at the Police/Court Complex at 131 North Main Street and City Hall at 111 North Main Street. This extends our long-time prohibition on smoking inside buildings to now include these grounds; and is in keeping with a growing national trend.

The City has been actively promoting an employee wellness initiative in order to foster a healthier work environment and to reduce City healthcare costs. Exposure to secondhand smoke, even in outdoor settings, has been proven to be harmful. A smoke free campus is not only an extension of our employee wellness initiative; it is also in consideration of visitors to these facilities.

This policy applies to all tobacco and smoking products and extends from the building interiors to the sidewalks abutting these properties to established property lines, which include the parking lots at Meadow and Laurel Streets. Signage will be in place soon and cigarette butt receptacles will be removed from these properties.

We ask for cooperation from the public to comply with this policy.
