nEW Information: "aS-BUILT" cHECKLIST FOR NEW CONSTRUCTION
Please adhere to and include this checklist in permits which require an "As-Built" survey.
Overview
Generally, you need to obtain a building permit from the City whenever you construct, enlarge, alter, repair, move, remove, improve, convert, or demolish a building or other structure. A building could be anything from a tool shed, a house, or a commercial structure. The projects requiring a building permit are listed in the Fee Schedule. A permit may also be required for repair or installation of work involving plumbing, mechanical, or electrical. Additionally, code violations are generally required to obtain a permit to correct property maintenance issues. The review of the plan may take up to 30 days. The payment for a permit can made on-line via credit card, cash, or a check (payable to the City of Bristol). If there are certain unpaid taxes or liens on the property, a permit will not be issued.
Applying for a Permit Or Searching for Public Records:
You can both apply for a permit and search for public records on-line. If you do not have access to a computer, one is available for public use in the Building Department. After establishing your account, log onto the permitting system, fill out the proper permit and submit the form. Your permit will be assigned to the appropriate inspector(s) for review.
